Without Walls invites artists and companies from any discipline to request R&D support for the development of new outdoor work for presentation and touring in 2015 or 2016
Research and Development support
We have a limited budget to invest in Research and Development (R&D) support for artists to create new shows for presentation in 2015 or 2016. We recognise that ambitious new work takes time to bring to fruition and that artists can benefit from the opportunity to explore new ideas as part of the development process, before committing to a production. We also know that this type of planning process can assist with fundraising for a new project and that it can be a useful way of engaging commissioners, supporters and partners in new work.
Our priorities for investment of R&D funds are detailed below. We will prioritise investment in work that meets one or more of these agendas;
1. Innovation, risk and new boundaries
We are keen to support artists to experiment with new ideas and techniques, digital technology and ambitious material.
2. Small scale work
Small scale work from any discipline but that is suitable for playing on a variety of settings both urban and rural.
3. Culturally diverse and deaf and disabled artists
We are committed to supporting work that is led by and features culturally diverse & deaf and disabled artists.
Large Scale work
Please note that Large Scale work won’t be a priority for 2015; we will however be seeking large scale projects for 2016 so if your project is for large-scale and fits this timescale please ensure you explain your experience of creating and touring work of a similar scale.
Practicalities and money
We have an overall budget of approximately £25,000 to invest in R&D.
We intend to offer support in up to 5 projects.
We welcome artists who have other investors in their R&D projects but this is not crucial at this stage.
We hope that several of the projects we support with an R&D award will be supported by Without Walls in the next stage of its development for production and presentation in 2015.
Artists must be based in the UK
Deadline for submission of proposals: May 15th, 5pm
