Advancing Artists in Surrey

Applications are now closed.

Location: Barnet Hill Hotel, Guildford (24th/25th April) and Farnham Maltings (7th June)

Date: Monday 24th & 25th April 2017 and 7th June 2017

The sharing of the arts is an integral way of helping individuals in communities find the means to express themselves and create change in their society. To enable this often small but powerful change, artists need confidence, know-how and resources. This course aims to equip ambitious artists with the inspiration, knowledge and confidence to begin to develop their work within communities.

Arts Partnership Surrey, in conjunction with Farnham Maltings, is inviting Surrey-based artists of all disciplines to take part in a 3-day professional development course exploring what is required to be an artist working with community groups in Surrey. All artists, from photographers to actors, ceramicists to musicians, are welcome to take up this opportunity that could add a new branch to a creative career.

Participation is by application only. We are looking for a diverse range of artists based in Surrey to apply. This course is provided for free to all participants. Day 1 & 2 will be residential at Barnett Hill Hotel in Guildford.

Requirements:

  • You must live or work in Surrey, UK
  • You must have at least 2-3 years’ experience working as an artist
  • Must be available on 24th and 25th April 2017, and 7th June 2017

Day 1 & 2 (residential) will look at starting points when it comes to community projects, how to approach and develop them, and the logistics of making your idea come to life. There will be a selection of guest speakers and workshop leaders from across the UK.

Day 3 will take place a month later, reflecting on previous learning, and discussing your project ideas, whilst putting them in the context of Surrey and the county’s needs. There will be networking opportunities with Surrey-based organisations and artists.
