cultural attaché network

The cultural attaché network (CAN) for embassies and national cultural institutes based in London was established in 2003 by Visiting Arts (now part of Farnham Maltings’ international strand) to foster greater cooperation and partnerships with the UK arts and cultural sector.

The CAN provides a regular programme of briefings and visits designed to familiarise cultural attachés with current policies, new developments within the UK arts sector, strategic landmarks and areas of cultural significance, as well as facilitate introductions with key arts organisations and cultural operators. Additionally, the CAN provides a forum to share knowledge and resources to collectively advance international cultural exchange.

Events include an annual assembly, short presentations on specific topics; visits to individual organisations of interest, including tours of facilities; targeted day trips to cities/ regions linked to significant cultural events; and 2-3 day familiarisation trips to specific areas of the UK.
