Mountain Music

Written and performed by Little Bulb

This autumn, Little Bulb, in collaboration with Farnham Maltings, are proud to announce the premier of ‘Mountain Music’, their first UK rural tour, of a play about songs that leave and come back again.

Mountain Music is story that charts the journey of Celtic folk music over 300 years as it moves from the UK to America. This is very much a time when music lived in the sharing of it amongst each other and music was often your connection to family that you may have left. Little Bulb weave a tapestry, both historical and fantastical, in an unforgettable evening of story and song. Told with sumptuous three-part harmonies and a foot stomping five-piece string band, we invite you on a journey of musical migration to the birth of what we now call “Country Music”.

Little Bulb is an award-winning national touring company based in the South East of England. They are committed to developing devised and physical theatre performances which explore and illuminate minute human details that, in a world so big, are easily swallowed up. Combining innovative character work, beautiful imagery and original homemade music, they aspire to create performances that with humour and sadness will touch, startle and entertain.

Gavin Stride, Director of Farnham Maltings, said: “Little Bulb have a particular place in my heart. Every piece of theatre is made with such care and extraordinary craft that we jumped at the idea of working together on a piece for village halls. And, typically, they have found a story that feels both playful and thoughtful.”
Farnham Maltings’ most recent shows include ‘Title & Deed’, ‘Brave Folk’ and ‘Brilliance’, all of which toured nationally and were especially written for village halls and rural audiences.

‘A truly wonderful evening of marvellous storytelling, acting and music.’ Audience member @ Amble Parish Hall on Brave Folk
‘We were entranced, laughing and crying throughout! Such a wonderful evening.’ Audience member @ St Mary’s Church Hall on Brilliance
