The Dance Movement is a not-for-profit based community dance company which provides education for all and creates site-specific bespoke professional performances.
The Dance Movement began in 1999 as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with charitable objectives. Operating successfully for 7 years with funding from Arts Council England, the company enjoyed success touring nationally and produced a catalogue of high-profile dance education projects in High Wycombe, Bracknell, Reading, Henley & Newbury. Upon invitation from Farnham Maltings, the Company relocated to Farnham in 2004 taking up residence. A research period began to ascertain the community dance needs of Farnham.
In 2006, Dance Movement went through a phase of transition with Rachel Palmer taking on the reigns of the company as programme director. Rachel’s passion for community dance drove the organisation in a new direction. Gone were the national dance tours – replaced by site-specific outdoor woodland dance projects. The Dance Movement unites Farnham’s community with professional dancers, artists and musicians through inspiring performances.
Rachel is supported by company administrator Nicky Norton and the Board of Directors. The company works with local schools and youth groups to deliver a community dance programme with the ambition to develop new audiences and embed dance within Farnham and the surrounding area.
